RED Alert 2/18

The Illinois Gun Violence Prevention Coalition "advocates for common sense, evidence-based gun violence prevention measures that will save lives in Illinois." They are also a great resource for information on current legislation related to gun control bills in Illinois and have easy links to file witness slips or contact your legislators. Check out their page and contact your legislator regarding the Gun Dealer Licensing Act, which encourages better business practices among gun dealers and holds corrupt dealers accountable. Between 2009 and 2013, nearly 20% of all guns recovered from crime scenes in Chicago were sold by just four local gun dealers. Contact your legislators and ask them to support this legislation mandating state licensing of gun dealers.

A Community Meeting to respond to gun violence will occur on 2/24 at 10am at the Lincoln Belmont branch of the library. Join State Rep. Ann Williams, Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence’s Colleen Daley, and NIU school shooting survivor Patrick Korellis for a community meeting on how we can respond to gun violence throughout the nation. This meeting will address pending gun violence prevention legislation in Springfield and statewide advocacy efforts, and will be a space for community members to share concerns and ask questions. Please RSVP either through this event page or by emailing

Everytown for Gun Safety "is a movement of Americans working together to end gun violence and build safer communities. Gun violence touches every town in America. For too long, change has been thwarted by the Washington gun lobby and by leaders who refuse to take common-sense steps that will save lives." Michael Bloomberg has offered to match donations.
