RED Alert 10/2

REMEDIATE:

The administration has not yet asked congress for funding to deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. Call your House Rep and Senators to ask them to quickly pass disaster relief for those affected by Hurricane Maria. Request that prior to the Senate and House recesses on 10/9 and 10/16, both chambers should act to provide a disaster relief package that gives adequate funding to respond to immediate needs, like food and water, as well as longer term needs like the years of rebuilding that will be required.

EVENT:

Join Moving Forward members this Sunday at the Gubernatorial Candidate Forum. The event will be at the Chicago Teachers Union (1901 W. Carroll) and will be a fantastic way to hear from multiple candidates running for governor. Event starts at 1pm, but recommended to be there by 12:30pm. We have a few tickets left so please RSVP to movingforwardchicago17@gmail.com if interested.

DONATE:

In the wake of the horrific and senseless tragedy in Las Vegas, consider making a donation to the GoFundMe campaign started by Steve Sisolak, the Clark County Commission Chair from Las Vegas. The page has already raised over $3 million to assist victims of this tragedy. The fund will be used to "provide relief and financial support to the victims and families of the horrific Las Vegas mass shooting. Please continue to donate to organizations supporting the relief efforts in Puerto Rico and other islands (https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/22/world/americas/hurricane-maria-donate-charity.html) and to the International Refugee Committee (rescue.org) who is assisting the Rohingya after an outbreak of violence in Myanmar created a refugee crisis and forced thousands of families to flee to Bangladesh.
